King Triton & the Sea Witch
Atlantica
That was a nice intro to King Triton. Now the boys (and the girl) are heading out to explore. Let’s see what (or who) they run into.
①「海底（かいてい）峡谷（きょうこく）」への出口（でぐち）
ねぇ、私（わたし）のかくれがに来（き）て。見（み）せたい物（もの）があるの。
ほら、ここから見えるでしょ。あそこがそうよ。

※ The word かくれが is usually written in kanji （隠れ家）. It literally hidden（隠れ） house（家）. The word itself means hideout or refuge.
②「アリエルのかくれが」への扉（とびら）
どう？みんな私とフランダーで集（あつ）めたの。
きっと外（そと）の世界（せかい）のものよ

EN: Look at all the wonderful things Flounder and I’ve collected.
I’m sure this stuff is from the surface.
EN: I think it’s all from the outside world.
※ I translated 外の世界 (which means outside world) to surface since Ariel got this stuff from there. It’s a different world for her so it makes since that she would describe in this way in Japanese.
③私ね、いつかこの海（うみ）の外に出（で）たい。
もっと広（ひろ）い世界を見たいの。そういうのって、変（へん）かな。。。？
いや、そんなことない、そんなことないよ。
You see, I want leave this sea someday.
EN: Someday, I’m going to see what’s out there.
I want to see a much broader world. Is that strange?
EN: I want to see the other worlds. Does that sound strange?
No, that’s not strange one bit.
EN: No. Not at all.
※ Ariel is asking if what she is saying is strange here (そういうのって) but I thought “Is that strange” would fit. You can also repeat a phrase to emphasize it more like Sora is doing when he’s trying to reassure Ariel that her dream is not strange.
④俺（おれ）も、そう思ってた。
思ってた？
いや、思ってる、今（いま）でも。
I felt the same way.
EN: I used to feel the same way.
You “did”?
EN: Used to?
I mean that’s how I still feel even now.
EN: I mean… I still do.
※ I put emphasis on “did” here because Sora said that he felt or thought that way, too. But then he catches his slip up and try to say that he’s still felling or thinking that with 思ってる.

⑤ね、さっき言（い）ってた”鍵穴（かぎあな）”っていうの、探（さが）しに行（い）きましょう？
でも、アリエルの親父（おやじ）さんがー

EN: Hey, why don’t we try looking for that Keyhole you were talking about?

※ The expression 気にすることない means “I don’t care”. 気にする by itself means to mind or to care about. However when set up with ことない, a negative nuance is formed.
⑥私にだってやりたいことがあるのに。
おまえたちに”鍵穴”が見つけられるものか。だけどあの娘（むすめ）は使（つか）えそうだね。
おまけに今のあたしにはハートレスの力（ちから）もある。
Even thought there’s things I want to do.
EN: He just… He just doesn’t understand.
So they’re looking for the “keyhole”. It appears I can that girl can be of use to me.
EN: Those impudent fools will never find the Keyhole. But the girl could prove useful.
Besides I have the power of the Heartless at my disposal.
EN: And I’ve got the Heartless on my side.
※ When the potential verb 使える is put with そうだ, it gives off a meaning of “it seems it can be used” or 使えそう. Also, in this situation, when dealing with そうだ you have to drop the る.

※ The phrase 今に見ていろ is quite the villain-esque thing to say. It means “Just you wait” or “You’ll pay for this”. いまいましい （忌々しい）means annoying or provoking which shows her grudge with King Triton. よどみ is a noun that means stagnation, backwater, or sediment. It also has a verb called 淀む（よどむ）which means “to stagnate”. So I went with a variation: stagnant.

🎮Nothing like minding your own business trying to open a chest when a shark comes out of nowhere to give an aggressive greeting. Speaking of chests, guess I was wrong. Paradigm Shifter opened another one.

※ The verb Triton is using here is 背く which is “to disobey”.

How could you do such a thing?!

Boy. You didn’t come from some far away sea. You all came from another world, didn’t you.
EN: Young man, you’re not from another ocean. You’re from another world. Aren’t you?
Just as I thought. So, you are the wielder of the “key”, huh.
EN: Then you must be the key bearer.

その不慣（ふな）れな泳ぎ方（およぎかた）ではな。
How do you know about that?
EN: How did you know?

With that inexperienced swimming of yours.
EN: You don’t know your dorsal fin from your tail.
※ 不慣れな is an adjective that means inexperienced. I like how they expressed their inexperience with moving around in these bodies.
⑬”鍵”を持つ者なら わっかているはずだ。
異（こと）なる世界に属（ぞく）する者はたがいに干渉（かんしょう）してはならない。属するもの
そんなの知ってるよ！だけどー－
If you really are the wielder of the “key” then you should know.
EN: As the key bearer, you must already know…
You aren’t supposed to interfere with the people in other worlds.
EN: One must not meddle in the affairs of other worlds.
I know that! But I can’t ignore what was going on.
EN: Of course I know that, but…
※ The verb 属する means “to be affiliated” or “to belong to” or “to be subject to”. I went a more expressive translation for Sora instead of just trailing off with “But…”.
🎮 Sora has been breaking that rule for quite a bit now. Besides it seems these worlds need to be interfered with considering there are villains out there doing the same. Kinda like a fight fire with fire deal. Except Sora is like a firewall(?).
⑭おまえたちはそのルールを破（やぶ）ろうとしている。
”鍵”を持つ者は平和（へいわ）を乱（みだ）し災いを招く（わざわいをまねく）
ソラはそんなことしないよ。
So you are aware that you are breaking that rule.
EN: You have violated this principle.
The “key” wielder disturbs the peace and brings calamity.
EN: The key bearer shatters peace and brings run.
Sora wouldn’t do that.
EN: Aw, Sora’s not like that.
※ This expression 災いを招く means”to bring calamity”. 災い means disaster or calamity while 招く means to invite. So Triton is saying that the key brings disaster.
⑮アリエルを助（たす）けてくれたことは感謝（かんしゃ）する。
だがわしの海にその”鍵”は必要（ひつよう）ない。
I’m grateful for you helping Ariel.
EN: I thank you for saving my daughter.
However, my sea has no need for that “key”.
EN: But there is no room in my ocean for you or your key.
⑯おやおや 彼女（かのじょ）は深（ふか）い悲（かな）しみに沈（しず）んでいるねーー
かわいそうに 我々（われわれ）が力になれればいいんだがーー
あのお方（かた）ならなんとかしてくれるかも。
Oh my, she’s sunken into a deep sadness.
EN: My, my, the poor child suffers such deep sorrow.

あんたと一緒（いっしょ）にいたあの子（こ）らだってーー
外の世界からきたんだからね。

Your wish, Ah, you want to go to the surface?
EN: Let me guess. You wish to see other worlds. That shouldn’t be too hard.
Those friends of yours,
EN: After all, your new friends,
came from the a different world.
EN: came from another world.
Huh?!
EN: What?
⑳だけどあれは特別（とくべつ）。あの不思議（ふしぎ）な鍵があるからね。
おおっと そんなに悲しまなくてもいいよ。あんたのそばにも”特別”はあるんだから。
いいかい アリエルーー。
But that is a special case. They have that mysterious key.
EN: But they had special help–. That mysterious key.
Oh my, you don’t have to be so sad. You have something just as special.
EN: Now, now. Cheer up, sweetie. You have something special, too.
Listen Ariel.
EN: Now listen carefully.
🎮You know, if Donald can turn himself, Sora and Goofy into sea creatures then surely he could’ve helped Ariel… but I guess that would ruin the plot for Kingdom Hearts II, huh?
㉑あたしはね”鍵穴”は宮殿にあるとふんでるんだ。
だからアリエル トリトン王に内緒（ないしょ）でそこまで案内（あんない）してくれればーー
おまえを外の世界へ連（つ）れて行（い）ってやれるんだけどねえーー。
The keyhole must be in the palace.
EN: I think the Keyhole they seek is somewhere in the palace.
So, Ariel, if you could lead me there without Triton finding out,
EN: Now, my dear, if you can take me there without you daddy knowing…
I can take you to the surface.
EN: I can help you get to these other worlds you long for.
※ The word 内緒 has the kanji for inside and the second kanji can mean things like cord or inception. To me, it gives off a feeling of being in the loop. So something is being kept from people out of this loop. Hence, a secret.
🎮Why did Triton think it was good idea to leave this thing behind. I’d have it on me at all times like my life depended on it. Because it kind of does if the trident gets in the wrong hands.
㉒「宮殿：トリトンの間（ま）」へ

Yeah. let’s all go together!
EN: That’s right. I’m right behind you, Ariel.
Ursula pulls magic from this mystical pot.
EN: Ursula draws power from her cauldron.
※ The word ツボ means pot. However in this situation cauldron works better considering Ursula is a sea witch and she does magic. For 引き出し, I went with pull but it can also mean to draw from.
㉘攻撃（こうげき）するだけではアースラには通用せんぞ。
あやつのツボを魔法（まほう）で攻撃するのだ。
たたいたら口を開（ひら）くかな？
Your attacks will not work on her.
EN: (N/A)
You have to attack the pot with magic.
EN: To defeat Ursula, you must strike her cauldron with magic.
I wonder if I hit it, will it open?
EN: Hitting it might open it.
※ The verb 通用する means to pass as. However when you put the negative form せん instead する, It means the same as 通用しない which means “to not apply”. せん is an expression that you can use to say “will not do”, “do not”, or “does not”. So Triton is saying that “physical attacks do not apply to her” or “will not work on her” as I suggested here.
※On another note I find it strange they didn’t translate that line. I guess they had a character limit or thought that it wasn’t needed.
That wraps up this heavy dialogue video. But we are not done with this world yet. It’s not over until Ursula is defeated. And we’ll be getting to that next time.
